Few examples
You can use AcuteFinder to remove files from old backups, that are replicated in newer backups. Just enter your new and old backup paths, and protect the new one, by right-clicking on it and select "Protect on/off". Then perform the scan. The resulting list will show you all duplicated files; just press Ctrl-A (Select all) and then the Delete button. All extra copies found in the old path will be deleted, but all files in the new path will remain. File that are different between the backups, did not show up on the list of duplicates, and therefore you keep the old version in the old path.
Let's say you have recently copied pictures to a CD or DVD disk for long-time archival. You want to be sure that the copies are exact and then delete the original from your hard disk. To achive this, just enter your CD/DVD path, protect it via the pop-up menu, add the appropriate path on your hard disk, and scan for duplicates. The resulting list will show you all duplicated files; just press Ctrl-A (Select all) and then the delete button. All extra copies found on the hard disk will be deleted, and the scan itself has verified that the copies were exactly the same.
Please note
If you are not familiar with file management, then AcuteFinder is maybe not for you. It does not automatically perform any deletes, but requires your understanding, interaction and decision making when operating on found files.
